Clyde L. Hornback Sr., 77, of Argenta, IL passed away at 10:25 a.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2011) in his home.

A service to celebrate Clyde's life will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 29, 2011) at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday with a Masonic Rites service at 5:45 p.m. Burial will be in Friends Creek Cemetery, Argenta, IL. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Argenta Masonic Lodge #871. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com.

Mr. Hornback was born on June 22, 1933 in Carthage, MO, the son of Harry H. and Lois (Kiger) Hornback. Clyde retired in 1986 from Caterpillar after thirty years of service. He was the owner/operator of Clyde's Welding. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict being stationed in Alaska with the 6th Armored Division 42nd Engineering Battalion. He married Peggy J. Schaefer on October 31, 1953. He was a member of the Argenta Masonic Lodge #871 where he served as Past Master and held various stations within the lodge, member of the Ansar Shrine and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Clyde served as a volunteer firefighter for the Argenta-Oreana Fire District. He also served as Police Commissioner and Trustee for the sanitation district. He attended Argenta United Methodist Church. Clyde enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing with his wife Peggy. He was an avid bowler for many years, he enjoyed woodworking, making the rounds at Casey's and helping his good friend Gary McConnell with his farm. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Illini fan.

Surviving is his wife: Peggy J. Hornback of Argenta, IL; sons: Larry (Jenny) Hornback of Oreana, IL, Steve (Tami) Hornback of Monticello, IL; brother: Eugene Hornback of Nevada, MO; sister: Lila Pritchett of Nevada, MO; grandchildren: Matthew Hornback of Chicago, IL, Megan (Christian) Longhi of Glen Carbon, IL, Katrina (Daniel) Degroat of Urbana, IL.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Albert Lee Hornback and best friend: Norman Rowe.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Maria T. Grosse Perdekamp, DMH 5100 Wing nursing staff, DMH Outpatient Care Center staff and DMH Hospice staff.
